Dr Lynne Jones OBE is senior technical advisor in mental health for the International Medical Corps. With her expert knowledge in the field of providing psychological assistance to the survivors of natural disasters she has travelled to Haiti to co-ordinate the provision of psychiatric services.
She has extensive expertise in setting up mental health programmes in emergencies: these can be natural disasters such as Pakistan and Aceh, or those caused by human conflict, such as the Balkans and Ethiopia.
Dr Jones studied for a BA in Human Sciences at LMH between 1970 and 1973, and was awarded an OBE in the 2001 New Year Honours List for psychology and mental health in conflict-affected areas of Central Europe.
She has written for The London Review of Books, The New Statesman, The Guardian and other journals on the Balkans, and on peace and human rights issues.
She is currently an honorary research associate in Developmental Psychiatry at Cambridge University, where she is studying the effects of political violence on children.
